Aleph-Bet Imagery- Fred Spinowitz

This is a book of Fred Spinowitz painted imagey. It was during the summer of 2004 that he sketched the first of many variations on the Hebrew alphabet. The use of Hebrew calligraphy as a counterpoint to abstract color has been an ongoing theme in his painting for many years. What seemed to be new and exciting was to take each letter and treat it as an object, paint it, redesign it and turn it inside out and upside down. Looking at something that one has seen for a lifetime in a new and different way became the challenge that he set for himself. It is his hope that the viewer can see the beauty in the form, shape and colors that have come from his imagination and experience. The calligraphy need not necessarily be read in the traditional manner. The viewer may find new ways in the visual message and art experience.
